About No. 129
I’m fascinated by the spectacle of, “celebrity,” but more specifically, how we treat celebrities or beautiful people different because of looks or fame. I wonder what they think about this, “preferential treatment.” I’m sure it makes them feel great and it probably inflates their egos tremendously. I’m not a celebrity artist so, I wouldn’t know. But, I don’t think I’m alone on this because I hear people add things like this all the time, “…and, he’s a really nice guy,” or, “…and, she’s got a heart of gold,” implying that, yes, they’re special but, this additive normalizes them. Now, I know we all basically think the same and have the same basic needs and desires. What I’m talking about are the reflective moments, when they’re alone and away from the crowd. Do they still feel privileged or inherently deserving or, do they just drift off in random thoughts like everyone else. And possibly, their insecurities are magnified as a result of being in the spotlight. Even with all the glory and adulations, I wouldn’t think it’s much fun to live in a fishbowl. This painting is from the beaded curtain series, see the link below for more.
